Accreditation Frequently Asked Questions

What should I know about radiation safety?
Before your imaging procedure, be sure to ask your physician the following questions:

  • Why is the test needed?
  • How will having the test improve my care?
  • Are there alternatives that do not use radiation and deliver similar results?
  • Is the facility accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR)?
  • Are pediatric and adult tests delivered using the appropriate radiation doses?

Why should I have my imaging exam done at an accredited facility?
When you see the gold seals of accreditation prominently displayed in our imaging facility, you can be sure that you are in a facility that meets standards for imaging quality and safety. Look for the ACR Gold Seals of Accreditation.

What does the gold seal mean?
When you see the ACR gold seal, you can rest assured that your prescribed imaging test will be done at a facility that has met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety. The facility and its personnel have gone through a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the largest and oldest imaging accrediting body in the U.S. and a professional organization of 34,000 physicians. It’s important for patients to know that every aspect of the ACR accreditation process is overseen by board-certified, expert radiologists and medical physicists in advanced diagnostic imaging.

Dual-AccreditationDual Accreditation – Not required or necessary, but essential

As an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility, the certification by an accrediting review board of the ability to provide quality imaging by equipment and staff is a requirement. Obtaining accreditation by additional review boards is not.

American Medical Imaging pursued and obtained dual certification through an addition peer review. The decision to take on the expense and subject our work to the scrutiny of a second evaluation was made to provide assurance that our service and commitment to quality could not be questioned. It was anticipated that a new imaging center offering a new and altogether different option in Open MRI in a long established hospital-based MRI service environment, while offering comparable imaging at substantially reduced pricing, would be questioned about image quality and challenged in its ability to provide additional services without it affecting diagnostic image quality.

The dual accreditation helps insure that duplicate peer reviewed parameters of diagnostic imaging quality should not be concerns when deciding to utilize the services of American Medical Imaging. [Note: As a testament to additional assurance, the accrediting process that was expected to take up to six months was finalized and approved in TWO WEEKS!]

Low Cost Insurance Steering

As a low cost MRI provider, American Medical Imaging is a preferred site for insurance companies and because of affordable MRI pricing will have patients steered to our service. The mistaken assumption by many is that insurance companies steer patients only for cost reducing purposes and that quality is secondary. Healthcare providers who order MRI scans at usual sites only to have the patient steered to another site have a justified concern as to where the patient may end up as it is out of their control.

We do not want this assumption to overshadow our commitment that providing diagnostic quality images and superior customer service are our main goal at AMI. Our dual accreditation reflects this commitment. Healthcare providers ordering MRI scans should not feel at all concerned that they will receive high quality diagnostic imaging and have their patients receive a superb imaging experience when insurance companies steer to American Medical Imaging!
